Kevin Smith está produzindo o filme “Jay & Silent Bob Reboot” e o papel de “Chronic” será interpretado por Melissa Benoist. A atriz, mais conhecida como a protagonista em Supergirl , é amiga de Smith há anos, já que ele se tornou um dos diretores favoritos de Supergirl e The Flash. Ela vai se juntar ao seu próximo filme como metade da dupla de heróis originalmente interpretada por Jason Biggs e James Van Der Beek em 2001.

Jay e Silent Bob Strike Back traz os personagens Jay (Jason Mewes) e Bob (Kevin Smith) de Bluntman & Chronic, uma história em quadrinhos criada por Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck), de Amy Chasing e Banky Edwards (Jason Lee), e que havia sido escolhida como um filme. Smith conta que fãs tóxicos na internet começaram a criticar Jay e Bob (retratados nos quadrinhos como os alter-egos dos heróis) como personagens entediantes que não mereciam uma adaptação. Incansáveis, eles partiram para Hollywood para evitar que o filme fosse feito. Em Jay & Silent Bob Reboot , eles … bem, é basicamente a mesma piada. Mas agora é sobre o reboot.

IT’S A (SUPER) GIRL! The majority of you guessed correctly: @melissabenoist, one of my favorite actresses in the world, indeed takes on the mantle of Chronic in our rebooted #bluntmanandchronic movie within @jayandsilentbob Reboot! (And we gave her some pants *before* the good folks at @supergirlcw!) I have loved working with Me-Me since I “directed” her in my first ep, #supergirllives. Number One on the call sheet sets the tone for the rest of production – and if that Number One is a tool, the set is a miserable place to be. But Melissa is the most exemplary and gracious Number One I ever met. She’s incredibly kind to EVERYONE in the cast and crew and she never complains about the long-ass hours, even when she’s hanging from ropes high above the ground. Then she opens up her mouth to act and you realize she’s that rare complete package in this business: true talent and true warmth. Some actors and actresses have a “process” that can be disruptive or alienating. Melissa doesn’t have to imposition anyone to be good at her job: she’s a natural. So naturally, two years ago, I asked her to be in #jayandsilentbobreboot. Melissa was the first person I asked to be in the flick (aside from @jaymewes and @harleyquinnsmith) and though it took a minute to get to the set, when we rolled cameras, she was Charm City! I saw her in the trailer in costume before we started shooting and the Last Daughter of Krypton gushed “When you asked me to be in the movie, you didn’t tell me I get to wear a cool costume too!” God, I love this kid – she’s the absolute light of the world. (And since her boyfriend is also *my* boyfriend, you might keep an eye out for a @christophrwood cameo too!) You’ll see Melissa’s Chronic and the finished #bluntcave in the #jayandsilentbobreboot trailer when it drops this weekend in Hall H at @comic_con! De acordo com o post do Instagram de Smith, que você pode ver acima, Benoist foi a primeira pessoa que ele pediu para estar em Jay & Silent Bob Reboot , além de Mewes e sua própria filha, Harley Quinn Smith. Ele também sugeriu que haverá uma participação especial de Chris Wood, namorado da vida real de Benoist e co-estrela de Supergirl .

Quando Smith deu uma primeira olhada em um poster do filme, no início desta semana, ele brincou que o elenco era  perfeito e que ele estava animado para a reação do público na estreia do trailer em seu painel do Hall H neste fim de semana na Comic Con. Ele disse que muitos fãs adivinharam o papel de Benoist, então ele decidiu deixar o gato fora do saco … mas o ator que interpreta Bluntman permanece (pelo menos até agora) envolto em mistério. Alguns fãs especularam que o colaborador de longa data, Ben Affleck , que não participa de um dos projetos do cineasta desde a participação de Clerks II em 2006 , poderia estar interpretando o papel, que é uma óbvia paródia de seu próprio estilo como Batman em Batman vs. Superman: A origem da Justiça.
